about

Bathley Street, the ninth single from The Mariners, will feature on the bands third album; Four Sides Of The Circle.

Bathley Street is a tale about the first street Williamson remembers from his childhood where everybody knew everybody else and community was right there on the door step and the curbs of the pavements where he lost his two front teeth after tripping up outside the butcher's shop.

lyrics

Bathley Street, you were my very first street, oh Bathley

Bathley Street, my very first street
The place I learnt to walk on my own two feet
The big iron gates adorned the library
Whilst noise filled the air from the factory

In the schoolyard where we would play
Mr. Jones the caretaker, he would say
Go and sling your hook or I'll ring your dad
Then we smashed a window and we ran like made

I'm not longing for a place
Just reminiscing about a time
A time I cherish in my mind
Oh Bathley Street, how I love you

Bathley Street, an overcrowded street
Old ladies queuing up for their pound of meat
Big wooden doors to the factory
No noise said the sign in the library

Everyday we'd hear our neighbours shout
And the chimes from Little John would be ringing out
Not the sort of place for a quiet life
But you could count on anybody day or night

I'm not longing for a place
Just reminiscing about a time
A time I cherish in my mind
Filled with people I once knew
Oh Bathley Street, how I love you

Our love, is like the flowers out the back
We grow together at the right time
In the Meadows sunshine
Weathering the storms
Fondly looking back

Me Mama and Grandad took me down to the pub
On the summer nights when I'd been good
Locals slung me change as I sat by the phone
I sung won't you show me the way to go home

Sunday morning we'd all take a stroll
Walking our Misty to the bridge with a toll
Then wed'd head back for me mam's roast beef
Passing by the place I lost my two front teeth

I'm not longing for a place
Just reminiscing about a time
A time I cherish in my mind
Filled with people I once knew
Oh Bathley Street, how I love you

Oh Bathley Street, you were my very street
Oh Bathley Street
